Erik stared at the city around her as she stood on the walkway, she had had just made it to this city, so she was new to this place. in her pocket was as address and phone number for the place she was staying at. In her travels, she had met a lot of people already and most had been kind to her. She stared at the glass in the store front, her eyes giving away what she truly was; one of the human race at all. She was of the Aijjia race, and she had no idea of what went on in this town. She sighed and pushing her hair back behind her right ear she turned and she walked down street.
Hmm, what to do? go to the address and find a job would be in order.
She nodded to herself and pausing she stared the bakery that had a help wanted sign on the store front, she moved into the shop and she stared at the goods. She was a neat person and a she walked up to the counter,
Excuse me, can I get an application, I would like to apply for the job?
The owner of the store turned around and stared at her for a long second before speaking,
Yes. You may. Do you know how to read, and serve people?
The owner of the shop then smiled and handed over the application to Erik and went to turn off what was beeping in the back before comeing back to her. Erik noded,
Yes, I can both, and I can count change out too.
The shop keep nodded and then asked,
What’s your name?
Erik smiled as she answered owner,
I am called Erik. And I am living at this address.
She reached into her pocket and pulled out the card with the name and address on it and handed it to the owner. The owner took it and nodded,
They are a good family, ok. As long you stay there, you have the job, can you start tomorrow?
Erik nodded and then ran a finger over the application. This made the owner nod and say,
Fill that that out, and bring it in tomorrow when you start work at 7 am, ok?
Erik nodded before saying as another person walked in from the outside world and get in line to get something,
Okay! I’ll be here!
Then Erik moved to the door and walked out smiling. She stepped into the crowds of people and wondered what they were going after, most likely something fun. but she was going to go to that address and get settled in.

Katsuo roamed the tall city that extended way above his head, taking in the sights of the tall buildings. A wide grin extended across his face, looking around at all the happy, bustling people that went out and into buildings, conversing with one another, and whatnot.
Last time Katsuo was here, he was rushing towards the docks to get to Duel Academy, so he hadn't the chance to look at much of anything. But, now was different; it was the weekend, and students were permitted to go off the island to roam the cities and even spend the night there as long as they returned before Monday. "It's so amazing here!" Katsuo exclaimed to himself. It was most definitely not his usual behavior, but he enjoyed seeing new sights. Baby Tragon, his Duel Spirit that was floating around, flew around him in circles and enjoying in the happiness that Katsuo emanated. He could not see this spirit, but he in turn could feel it's happiness as well.
"I should come out to the city every weekend~" Katsuo commented happily. He knew it wasn't going to be possible considering the amount of homework they would dump on him later in the year, but it was something to look forward to at the very least.
Before, though, he could enjoy any more such thoughts, he began to notice that he was about to collide into another person, his duel spirit noticing the perceived event far more earlier than Katsuo did, as it cried to get his attention. Unfortunately, the midget duelist was not aware of his small spirit. He did, however, managed to twist and turn his way out of bumping into this person right before it did.
Though it did make a nice public spectacle. If Katsuo was tall enough for people to notice him.
That.. that was close... I should have been watching where I was going. Katsuo immediately thought to himself, his spirit breathing a sigh of relief along with him. He looked up at the person he had almost bumped into, a beautiful long haired woman whom was smiling just as much as he was a little earlier ago. Erik.

Erik stood outside of the shop a second, before she noticed the boy that almost knocked into her, moving quickly out of the way. She started and took a step back, she eyed the male with her black eyes and green slits in the middle of the pools of darkness as she stared at the smaller male her smile vanishing slightly, with a hint of fear in the back of her mind springing up. She made herself, reclaim her step and then smiling again, and ask him in her husky voice,
Oh, im sorry. I didn’t see you.
She honestly wasn’t looking where she was going that time. She folded her paper up and looked at the signs, and wondered where on earth she was going to find the address of this place at. These building were taller than she was use to. She glanced back down at the boy, he was in his way seemed almost cute. she mentally shrugged as her fear slowly left her mind, and she then thought,
I guess I better ask a person who knows their way around this place where, I can find this place.
She then spoke to him in a way that said she was lost,
You wouldn’t happen to know where “Xyz street” is would you?
she had thought about flaging a taxi down, but she didn’t have any money so this created a problem. She normally did have money to get her places, but she didn’t have the money this time.

She noticed me? Katsuo thought shortly after the small escapade of events of him defying all the laws of physics and the space-time continuum to not crash into this woman. And in the end, he was still noticed, which was most definitely not his intention.
But the fact that she was even talking to him was even more cause for alarm, considering how short he was. Many people confused him for a child when he was already at least 16 years old. Though, he supposed, that is probably still pretty young to certain people. "Xyz street? ... To be perfectly honest, I don't come to the city a lot either. I think I do remember seeing that street name that way." Katsuo answered, suddenly remembering he was being asked a question. He pointed in the direction he came from, having a vague memory of passing a street with that name on his way there.
"I'm sorry if it's not helpful, I was in Satellite most of my life, and I just recently got enrolled in a duel academy." Katsuo explained his inadequate amount of helpful instructions. It was true though: he had only been to Neo Domino city only a few times, four times at most, with the last two times occurring within the last two weeks at best. The other two times were small instances where his mother would take him there.

Erik smiled at the smaller male who was answering her questions with ease after a pause, it had t obe her eyes that were making people pause. Dark green noticeable slits in pools of blackness. But she nodded, so the home wasn’t that far from here, that was good, running to work to save money was a good thing. She frowned slightly,
Duel academy? What is that?
She pondered, before saying to him,
Well I only just gotten to this city… by the way; what is a duel academy?
She didn’t have a clue of what a duel academy was or why it was here. She was just a outsider who was finding her way in the city. Who knows she might have found her final resting place in the world in this city, who knows. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to just walk off after her question was answered or would she find that she had more questions. She just didn’t know.

Someone that didn't know what a Duel Academy was? That, in and of itself, was rare. Dueling was the world's most popular game, and academies being made for that specific game had been around for hundreds of years now. Maybe she comes from a place where Duel Monsters isn't all that prominent...? Even Satellite was obsessed with dueling though, even if we were dirt poor. Katsuo mulled over the concept for a bit, before giving up. Maybe there was some people that hadn't even heard of it, or maybe it's just the concept of an academy for such a game still sounded outlandish. "A Duel Academy is where duelists such as myself go to so we can learn more about Duel Monsters, and we can apply what we learn into a career that properly reflect that. Most of the people go to become professional duelists, but there are other careers that stem from it, such as being a teacher, Duel Disk technician, judges, artists... The number of jobs go on and on." Katsuo explained it to the best of his ability, which, obviously made him look like a nerd that was obsessed with the very idea of a duel academy. "O-of course, I'm enrolled in one, so sorry if I came off like some hipster or something.."

Erik blinked at the boy, as he said the things about the Duel Academy. So it was a school, that was new, but then again, humans seemed to value learning. In her world, there were no real schools, if one wanted to learn, then they had to seek out a person with the learning of the subject. And reading wasn’t high on the list, Erik only knew how to read because of the humans and one of them, taught her how to read and write in English and her native tongue of Latin. But a school for this dueling sounded; different. She had to ask the next set of questions,
What do you duel then? Disks?
She was thinking of flat circle shaped things with the hole in middle of them. And she then wondered; how the heck one would duel them then. She in reality never seen or heard of this dueling game at all. She paused; he had said something about artists as the thought,
So that must mean there would be pictures of this?
She frowned and then moved out of the way for some people who were going in the bakery. She was also finding this interesting, this dueling thing, maybe it was another type of weapon that she could use? She suddenly hoped it was a weapon, and not a disk. Disks weren’t the best weapons around.

".. what we duel? Other people! It's really fun, you know." Katsuo exclaimed, before it finally dawned onto him. This person knew absolutely nothing about duel monsters. "... But I suppose it's probably best just to show you. Lessee...." Katsuo mentioned, finally, as he took a few glances around the city streets to hopefully catch a glimpse of someone, anyone, actually dueling. It was Neo Domino freaking City, the very core of the dueling world! Surely, there would be someone dueling in the streets. Sadly, though, there was not. This, though, did not sway the shorti- I mean Katsuo. ... I might have to initiate a duel with someone... but... I don't see anyone that looks readily available to duel. He sighed. Looked like he had to actually explain everything. He ended up digging in his messenger bag and pulled out a duel disk. Or, really, the modern version of it that was provided to him free of charge by the Duel Academy; his father's old one barely worked at all. He swore he could sell it to a museum or something because of how old it was. At the moment, though, it didn't even look like a disk at all: it looked like a small tablet PC with a bracelet. "It looks almost nothing like a disk today, but the old ones did, and the name kinda stuck with them ever since." Katsuo explained, as he placed the tablet-looking duel disk's bracelet on his arm.
It glowed to life, as ten total panels began to fold out of the bottom of the machine, as it literally elongated itself by a few inches, even stretching the screen. By the time it was done, the words "DUEL MODE. Searching for active duel disks..." displayed on the screen in very heavy, bold red font.
"... And basically, once someone comes in the vicinity and challenges me, we duel. We place cards on these panels here on the duel disk, and they almost literally spring to life!" Katsuo explained, like a young adult with a dream, a passion, about the very subject. He was short, weak, spiteful, and not that smart, yet, dueling seemed to brighten his spirits, and made him want to move forward with it.
"S-sorry, am I boring you? I'll stop talking." Katsuo almost immediately said afterwards, reverting back to his blunt, short-statement-giving state like before, with a rather embarrassed look on his face. How long ago was it that he spoke with such tenacity, such happiness? It seemed like forever ago, so long ago that he didn't remember it.

Erik blinked as the boy spoke, he changed as he spoke about the duals. It was nice to see that change in the boy really; she nodded as she followed along with his words. She paused as he finished with a sorry and she spoke,
No, I’m not bored at all. It’s all new, so, how would one get a “deck” since it seems that is how one fights around here, I guess.
She glanced around she could easily make it to the corner and back to see if that was the street or not. But she didn’t move the words that he had spoken of were very interesting since she was viewing it as a weapon that she was going to need to learn. She added to her words,
I guess I would have to watch a few games before I tried to do it myself. But it sounds like it would a better way to solve fights then how I normally would do it in my city.
She had to chuckle to herself, because it was more like kill or be killed in her world of late.

Neb looked around the area. He had had come here to get a messenger bag. They were much better then backpags in his opinion and easiser to carry as well. He had just come out of the store rearranging it all. He gaze fell upon someone he had met before. Erik. Who was with her though? His eye fell on the jacket. A student just like him. He seemed to be looking for something. He walked over to the two. Maybe he could help. Of course Katsu wouldn’t know him from the school. After all he wasn’t wearing his jacket or anything like he was. Now that he was closer he could see that he was new. At least he thought so. He hadn’t seen him around before so that was the only explaintion wasn’t it? Wait thinking about it he might have seen his entrance test duel. ”You looking for something?” he asked the kid before nodding to Erik. ”Good to see you again.” he said. The young Osiris Red looked at the new arrival, and took notice of his familiarity with Erik.
"Hm? You two know each other? ... Anyways, I was looking for someone to duel to show her what dueling was all about. She's never heard of it, apparently." Katsuo explained, making a bigger deal out of the situation than was necessary. "Forgive me for asking, but do you so happen to be a duelist? And if so, would you mind dueling me?"
Katsuo immediately popped the question, his duel disk already ready to go. He steadily reached into his messenger bag, pulling out a deck and inserting it into a wide slot on his duel disk. As he inserted it, the duel disk seemed to grip onto it, and on the screen read a few new lines of text in, once again, bold red letters. DECK INSERTED.
SCANNING...

ADVANCED FORMAT DECK HAS BEEN INSERTED, CONSISTING OF 40 CARDS. VERIFIED BY SERVER 009583452.
READY TO DUEL. "Well?" Katsuo reaffirmed his question, also reaching into his bag for a d-gazer, an object that, like a monocle, covered one eye. Though he didn't take it out of his bag, he fumble with it within his bag, as if waiting for the newcomer's answer.

Erik nodded at Neb as she watched the smaller male place a deck of cards on the tablet of shorts. She frowned as she watched the words come on the screen; she glanced at Neb wondering to herself,
Does he do this too?
She didn’t mind the smaller male make a bigger deal out this then it needed. Simply because of her past, making one big deal out of something didn’t matter in the grand sense of things. Her black eyes with green slits in them staring at the disk as she then spoke,
What would happen if that didn’t work?
She pointed at the tablet slowly as if she was unsure if her question was wrong or not. She didn’t know what the game consisted of and for that matter she was figured it was simply another means of fighting in this place, she wondered if the defeated would be killed or not. She pondered to herself before she figured that it wouldn’t mean death if one lost, not like her world.

Neb blinked. That was rather sudden of the younger one to ask. Did he really like dueling that much? ”Well, yeah sure I guess. he said reaching into his back to pull out a much more outdated duel disk. Which deck to use? he pondered reaching into his back and pulling out one of them. And inserting it into the slot. He turned towards Erik. ”If it didn’t work, you could always play the old fashioned way. That would be by hand. It just wouldn’t have the holograms.” he said explaining it to her. And that really was the simple truth of it all. ”So you ready?” he asked pausing. ”I almost forgot. I’m Neb. Pleasure to meet you. I should at least know who I’m dueling right?” he asked with a short laugh. ”So who goes first?” he asked. Not that he really cared. "You do duel? That's great! I'm Katsuo, Katsuo Esper." Katsuo exclaimed, before taking a few steps back. "I challenged you, so I'll let you go first." Katsuo mentioned. DUEL LINK ACKNOWLEDGED.
PREPARING DUEL...
REGISTERED STUDENT ID 0061003 OSIRIS RED, KATSUO ESPER VS. UNREGISTERED/NONACADEMIC DUEL DISK.
START DUEL. The Duel disk once again had printed on it in bold, heavy red lettering, as it quickly shuffled the midget's- Er.. uh.. Katsuo's deck with a few good swipes of it's auto shuffler, as the young duelist drew 5 cards and equipped the one lens monocle-like headgear to his ear that he had been fumbling with in his messenger bag the whole time. In Katsuo's eyes, the surrounding area began to spring to life as bits of data began to absorb into the environment like water to a sponge, as floating screens materialized out of light showing the life points, the field, and the timer for each player. Those spectating would not see the new augmented reality updates, but they would see the life point, time, and field screens floating about as holograms from Katsuo's duel disk. It was a newer feature with new duel disks, as old ones wouldn't render such things. Older duelists back in the day had to keep track of this stuff within their minds, and if they were lucky, certain duel disks at least kept Life Point count. "Put on a good show!" Katsuo got in, getting rather excited about the duel, almost forgetting that the whole reason he was dueling was to show Erik. Which, then, he remembered about Erik, just as the girl was about to slip from his mind. "Oh, if.. uh.. you don't understand something, don't hesitate to ask! I imagine this is all new to you, so..." Katsuo extended the piece of advice to her, hoping that the culture shock between of what she was used to and how things were done here would be lessened by it.

Erik was finding the red letters on the screen awesome. She hasn’t seen anything like that before and it was different. She smiled and nodded as the smaller male spoke. She then spoke,
I plan to ask all my questions…. So gentlemen, let’s go.
Her pools of black with dark green silted eyes sparkled as she watched the deck get dealt out in five cards. She figured it was only five cards to one person, but it wouldn't hurt to ask right? She then asked,
Only five cards are to be dealt out right?
She then looked at them, then muttered,
Life points? Attack and ……. What is the other side numbers?
She suddenly wanted to pick a card up and look at it. She doubted she would be able to do that since they were using that desk thing.

”Right so I go first.” he said pulling out his five cards since the duel disk didn’t do it for him. He quickly looked at Erik. ”New to all this?” he asked. He rubbed the back of his hand with his free hand. ”Well we can always go step by step.” he said offering it. Of course that would be the plan anyway. ”Yeah, both players start out with 5 cards. No more and no less. You’re stuck with the hand you get regardless of what it might be.” he said putting his duel disk back to its normal position. A small smile played across his lips like he was in school reciting something he had learned to the teachers. ”Life points are what you use to play the game. Once one or the other hits 0 it’s game over. Of course theres also special win conditions and the possibility of both players Life points dropping to 0.”He took a breath before continuing. ”Attack is the main thing used to drop your opponents Life Points to 0. Of course there is also the other number on a card. Defense Points. This one isn’t used as much for damage, but it can be.” he said turning his attention back to Katsu. ”Right time to kick this thing off. My move draw.” he said pulling a card from his deck. ”At the beginning of your turn you draw a card after that you move onto your Standby Phase. I don’t have anything to do with that so it turns to my main phase.”He studied his hand. What to do with it? ”During this phase you can normal summon or set, put it in defense mode face down, one monster. Normally you do that if you have a good card you don’t want your opponent to know. You can also play as many magic as you want and set traps, but you have to wait a turn to use traps. I’ll set one monster and then end my turn. Now I’m at the end phase. There are effects you can use during this phase, but again I don’t have any so my turn is done and his starts. Following so far?” he asked. Set monster? Flip effect, maybe? Or... Katsuo mulled over the possibilities, but he didn't know the opponent's deck. There was the possibility of knowing an opponent's entire deck with the first card, but there were certain cards that everyone used, even if it didn't fit the theme of the deck at all.
Katsuo shook whatever thoughts from his mind, and readied himself for his turn. "My turn, I'll draw." Katsuo stated the beginning of his turn, drawing a card from the top of his deck, and looking into his 6 card hand. Not much I can do with this hand. It has potential, but that face down concerns me... Katsuo thought, looking at two cards in particular in his hand.
But, he could wait a few turns, or at the very least wait till he saw what the face down was. "I'll set two spell/trap cards face down. ... Aaaand that's it! I'll end my turn." Katsuo stated, placing two cards in his hand on the bottom panels on his duel disk.
The moment he did, floating cards, facing face down towards the ground appeared on the field, almost as large as probably a queen sized mattress for each, as the panel floating around that visibly displayed the field displayed it in the same manner.
"Like Neb mentioned, I can place as many spell or trap face downs as I want, but I can't really do anything with them until the next turn if they're traps. Normally, since I went second, I would be able to attack his set monster with one of my own, but since I opted not to summon a monster, I cannot do so. I then end my turn." Katsuo explained, before looking back at Neb and nodding.
"Your go!" Field: Two Spell/trap facedowns Hand: 4 cards

Erik nodded at Neb’s words, she watched as he placed the card down face-down. She frowned, so it could placed face down. She thought,
Hmm… ok.. I can see the advantages of this so far. Five cards; no more, no less. Life points is like how long it will last, and then set a monster….. ok…
She frowned and studied the play of trap or spell cards that Katsuo had stated were and played; she noted that they went on the lower part of the playing field rather than at the top where Neb had placed his defense monster,
So…. Whatever is a spell or trap card is placed on the lower playing field? Unlike the monster that is placed on the higher playing field? And what is the purpose of a trap or spell card? How is it different from an monster?
She frowned as she spoke. She was trying to understand the game, but it was like so different from what she was use to it was like she would need a rule book or something that she could take notes in a while so she would remember it. But something told her she would have to play a few times and mess up a bunch of times to get the hang of the game before she even got the basics down. And for that she would have to get a deck somehow. But she didn’t have a clue and she wasn’t asking yet.

Neb picked up the top card from his deck. It was quite a good hand. Providing everything fall as he wanted it to, but that was asking quite a bit and he knew it. Well all he could really do was try. ”My move draw.” he said. He added the new card to his hand and studied it. Well for now it would be best to try to explain everything. In his mind that was the point of this duel. "Yes, Magic/Trap are placed on the lower field and the monsters are placed above it. Magics are different because they usually do something to give an edge to the player. Traps are usually used to turn things to your favor." he said. ”Now then moving onto monsters. You have 6 major types of Monsters. Normal, Effect, Ritual, Fusion, Synchro, and Xyzs.” he said taking the time to flip his monster into attack mode. ”Normal monsters are just that. They have attack and defense and nothing else. Effect monsters like the one I just flipped have special effects along with the attack and defense. For now lets get to mine.” he said. ”There are normally two types of effects. One you can use when the conditions are met or flip effects which are used when monsters are flipped from their facedown positions.” he said as Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter lunged towards Katsu’s left facedown. ”Mine happens to be when it’s flipped I get to destroy one card on the field.” he said as Ryko finally reached it as it was destroyed. Neb picked up the top 3 cards from his deck and put them on the graveyard slot as it slowly added them one by one. ”Of course in return I have to send the top 3 cards from my deck to my grave. What I just did is called a Flip Summon by the way. It’s where you take a facedown card and flip it into faceup Attack position. It might help to note you can Flip Summon as many monsters in a turn as you want. However you can’t Flip Summon a monster the same turn you set it.””The next time is Ritual monsters. For those you need both the monster and the ritual spell card that goes with them. After that theres Fusion. This one gets a bit trickier as you need certain monsters along with certain spell cards. So for now we won’t go in that. Synchros are next. You need at least 1 Tuner Monster, which is a sub group of monsters, plus other cards to make the level of the monster you want to Syncrho summon. The card will usually say what you need to use it.” he said as his graveyard started to glow from one of the cards that had gone in there. ”Last is Xyz. These are newer, so really all you need for them if the same level monster. How many of those is different from each one.” he said just in time for one of his cards to come out from the graveyard as a large wolf appeared on the field. Neb took a pause before continuing what he was saying. There was a lot to it. ”What I just did is a Special Summon. You can Special Summon a card when you met the conditions written on the card itself. Unlike Normal Summoning or Setting, you can Special Summon as many monster as you want in a turn providing you meet the conditions for it. The special condition for this card just so happens to be that it needs to be send directly from my deck to my grave to summon it. Otherwise I'm not allowed to Normal Summon or Set it. I think that’s enough for now. I’ll start my battle Phase. Ryko, Lightsworn and Wulf, Lightsworn Beast attack him directly!” Neb said as they moved to obey his orders. ”What I’m doing is called a direct attack. Since he doesn’t have any monsters all the damage goes to him. If he had attack position monsters the two numbers would be subtracted and the difference would be the damage. The lower attack monster would then be destroyed. Defense works a bit differently. The two numbers are still compared. However if they number of the Attack is stronger than the defense, unless otherwise stated, isn’t taken from the Life Points. However the monster is still destroyed. If the defense happens to be stronger though the attacker loses the difference and neither monster is destroyed.” he said as both attacks would seemingly hit Katsu. "Ryko? And Wulf? You use Lightsworns then?" Katsuo observed, as he witness the rather large holographic card to his right dissipate into a thousand or so shards of light, as the panel on his duel disk launched the destroyed card off of his duel disk. The short Osiris Red-clad student caught it, and deposited it into the discard slot shortly after.
"A pity. I would have liked to keep that Fiendish Chain for later, but I suppose I cannot now." Katsuo stated, as he then saw the lightsworn beast more commonly known as Wulf charge right at him. "But I suppose I can put this card into good use though!" Katsuo mentioned shortly afterwards, flipped his remaining trap card face up.
It revealed to be Gravity Bind.
"Like Neb mentioned, this here would be a trap to turn things in my favor. This one in particular is a continuous trap, meaning it stays on the field for as long as possible until it is removed from the field in some way. Gravity Bind's effect prevents any monster level 4 or higher from declaring an attack." Katsuo added to the trap explanation. In Katsuo's eyes, the ground morphed to be a green grid-like texture that enveloped everything, as the augmented reality vision began to show pressure towards this ground, as if things enveloped in this texture had a hard time withstanding such a force.
