Erik blinked at Neb’s lesson for her, lots of information, maybe a little too much, but that was a lot of monsters to remember. She blinked and nodded as he spoke and watched as Neb flip the card over. She blinked as it was killed off in a show of light effects before it was placed in a slot. She thought to herself,
Pretty lights....
She nodded before she stared at the field, as Neb’s two cards seemly came to life and leapt at Katsuo’s lone card. She then blinked as Katsuo flipped his card over and the one card ceased its fight and Katsuo lost 200 points. She frowned and then spoke, Levels? …. Level 4? How do you tell levels?
She felt so lost suddenly; Katuso seemly made it look easy and used game terms that she didn’t understand at all, at least Neb explain it to her more.

A trap? Well that was understandable really. The real question is why didn’t he play any monsters? Did he have none to play or just holding them. At any rate he made a mental count. Right now he had one Lightsworn in the grave. Something he needed to keep count of. And if Katsu knew a thing or two about Lightsworns he would try to keep track of that as well. Of course that might be more difficult seeing as the one that was in his grave was there by Ryko’s effect. ”Nice block there.” he said before turning to address Erik. He pulled Wolf off of his duel disk for a moment. ”You can tell the level of a card by how many stars it has on it.” he said as he pointed to the the stars above the picture. ”You can normal summon anything Level 4 or lower with no cost, unless it says otherwise like this one. It can’t be normal summoned, only special summoned.” he said wondering if he should tell her about Tribute Summons. ”Theres also something called Tribute Summoning. Cards that or level 5 or 6 Require one tribute. That’s to say you need to offer one of your monsters to bring it out. But it is treated as your normal summon. So you can’t summon a monster and then in that turn tribute it for something better. Level 7 or higher, unless otherwise stated on the card, only requires two tributes.” he said as he moved onto his second phase as he inserted a card below one of his monster slots. ”I’m in my Main Phase 2. Usually you use this if you want to set some things up for your opponents next turn or if things didn’t go quite as you planned during your battle phase.” he said turning to address Katsu. ”I play one card and end my turn.” he said turning it back over to Katsu. Eh? I'm... no good at teaching, aren't I... Katsuo realized, actually kind of sad at the fact. Within moments, though, he mentally waded away from this sadness and focused on the now. There was a duel to be dueled.
"My turn! Draw!" Katsuo stated, drawing a card from his deck. He looked at it only briefly, and then added it to his hand. He had to assess the situation. Lightsworns... It's been a while since I've seen these. I think the last time I saw them was when my Father was in a tournament, and he won by pure luck. Of course, with this deck, you kinda need a tad bit of luck to win. Katsuo drifted to his memories for a moment. I still remember my surprise when the opponent started putting cards from his own deck into his graveyard, and I always asked myself why. My father managed to finish it before he could actually do anything with them though, so maybe there's a card in the Lightsworn archetype that depends on cards being in the grave? Katsuo shook his head. There was no time for 'maybes' or 'ifs' or things like that. It may be a good idea to look over his graveyard in detail from time to time, so maybe that could be a good idea.
He looked at the field. A Ryko, A Wulf, and a Facedown, and he just had Gravity Bind. Currently, Neb had two more cards than he did, and that wasn't good at all. Or, at least, he was told it wasn't good. Katsuo's Father made it a habit to check how many cards his opponent had over his own, as if the fact of having a different number meant the world.
"That facedown really concerns me.. so perhaps..." Katsuo murmured, before pulling out a card from his hand and placed it on a bottom panel. "I activate Mystical Space Typhoon on your facedown! It allows me to destroy one spell or trap card on the field." A blue tornado-looking hologram came from the sky, as it slowly descended upon the lone face down that Neb possessed. Erik studied the card that was shown to her by Neb as he explained levels of cards to her; he almost lost her when he explained Tribute Summoning to her. She blinked slowly as she took in the information, and then watched as Neb placed his card down on the board. She frowned slightly,
So many phases to remember…
She then watched as Katsuo draw out the deck a card and place a spell on the board. She blinked quickly as she watched the light come at Neb’s facedown card as she asked,
What just happen? …. How was he able to do that?
She frowned, they haven’t gone over Spell and trap cards yet so it was confusing her since all the other cards had waited a turn to be use. She frowned as she watched the light, before she asked another question,
Going out on a limb, and say that spell cards are different from trap cards, then?

Neb would answer her question in a moment, but for now he needed to act quickly before his card was destroyed. He hit the switch on his duel disk. ”I activate my face down.” he said just as the Typhoon engulfed his card. Ryko would growl and then be returned to a set position, no longer being able to be seen. After that his card would be destroyed. Neb let out a sigh, that had been close. ”Now then to answer your question. Spell cards are sorta similar to Trap cards, but rather then providing an advantage later, most are meant to provide an immediate advantage. So such most can only be used on your turn. There are six types of Spells. We’ll start with Normal Spells. These are usually just a one use card and then they are sent to the graveyard and can only be used on your turn. After that theres Continous Spell Cards. Like Normal spells they can only be used on your turn. However these stick around until destroyed or their effect is done.” he said picking up the card he had used and putting it in the graveyard slot. ”Next are Equip Cards. These again can only be used on your turn, but they only apply to one monster and are kept until destroyed once again. The next type is the only exception and the one Katsuo and I just used. Quick Play Spells. These can be activated on either players turn providing they are on the field. Mine, Book of Moon, takes one monster on the field and puts it in facedown Defense position.” he said taking a breath before continuing. ”The next is Field Spells. These normally have varying effects that apply to more than one monster. This stays until destroyed.” he said pausing. ”The last one is one I’ve mentioned before. It’s a Ritual Spell card. It’s only used to summon a Ritual Monster. After you use it, it goes to the grave as well.” he said pausing to consider something. He decided to include traps as well at this point since they weren’t covered that well. ”There are also three type of Trap cards. Normal, Continuous, and Counter. Normal are a one and done can be used after the turn has passed. Continuous are the same as Spell. They stay until destroyed. They essential work the same way as well. The last is Counter. These are normally used for countering what your opponent does. Although usually you can only use them when certain conditions are met. If you think of anything else feel free to ask. In the meantime. It’s still your turn Katsuo.” he said. "Eh? Book of Moon? That means..." It wasn't hard for the Red-clad duelist to put two and two together: His Mystical Space Typhoon was, more or less, useless. Neb activated his face down before it's destruction, and he set his Ryko back into face down defense position.
This meant that he could use Ryko's flip effect again, and he could very well destroy whatever he wanted. At the moment, Gravity Bind was the only thing keeping Mr. Wulf at bay. Katsuo eyed his hand once more. There was a specific combo he could pull off, but maybe it would have been better not to. But, that Ryko was on the field, and it was quite threatening. If I play a monster and flip Ryko, he'll go after my gravity bind, letting Wulf there attack my monster and leaving me without anything to use. I need to get rid of both Wulf and Ryko if I am to continue... Yet, on the flip side, if he destroys my monster with Ryko, I can summon... No, we'll get to that when we get there. I need to destroy his two monsters first.
Katsuo pulled a card from his hand and placed it on a panel. "I summon Time Wizard!" He shouted, as a red, circular clock with arms and legs jumped out of a opening portal from the ground, wielding a staff with another, smaller clock.
"I activate Time Wizard's effect! A coin is flipped, and I'll call the result. If it is what I call it, all of your monsters are destroyed. If it isn't, all of my monsters are destroyed, and I take half of all the monsters' attack points destroyed by this way." Katsuo explains, as a large, metallic, hologram coin appeared in the middle of the field. "I call heads!" Katsuo shouted. The panel showing the entire field that was floating around showed the word "Heads" in large, heavy red font, as the large metallic coin launched itself high into the air. It took only a second, before it landed on the ground again, showing the result.
Heads.
"All of your monsters are destroyed." Katsuo mentioned, with a slight grin. To be perfectly honest, he would have been okay if it landed tails, but heads was the preferred outcome.
The clock wizard raised his staff, as the surrounding scenery began to... age. It aged rapidly, and with it, Neb's monsters. They began to age to the point where they dissipated to bits of dust, gone with the wind. The wizard lowered his staff, and no longer the aging effects littered the area.
A clear field laid ahead of the Osiris Red. "Time Wizard! Attack for 500!" Katsuo commanded, as the Small Wizard held his staff out, and cast a energy ball of sorts towards Neb. Of course, it was only a hologram, and it dissipated the moment it hit Neb.
Main Phase two. Katsuo took a single card from his hand and laid it face down. "I'll play this face down... and that's it. Your go."
But, there was something he was forgetting about. He really should check on Neb's grave while he could. "Opponent's grave." Katsuo stated in a small voice, as a floating panel appeared, showing the contents of Neb's grave. Three Lightsworns... Can he do anything with them?
He probably wouldn't even get the chance to see what they did. Perhaps Neb was already planning something to go against him. Field: Time Wizard (500/400), 1 Facedown spell/trap, Gravity Bind Hand: 2 Cards

Erik’s mouth dropped slightly at Neb’s quick reaction to Kat’s card before she was told about spell cards. She blinked as her mouth shut as she took in all the different type of spell cards; she wouldn’t be able to keep track of them all. She frowned and then cocked her head as she stared at the playing field. He had summoned a spell and now a monster, she blinked and asked slowly,
So… in a sense, only one summon per type of card?
She frowned as she watched the clock monster rise out of ground and Kat spoke and called heads. She then watched as the coin was flipped to land on heads. She cocked her head as she stared Neb’s cards vanished, then attack Neb. She blinked,
No blood…. Nice. Too bad my people couldn’t have found a way to fight things out like this.
She watched as Kat played a face down and then he looked though Neb’s grave, before she asked generally out loud,
What are you looking in there? Is it important to see what you defeated?
She didn’t understand how the cards tied together yet, so it was something interesting to her.

Neb drew a card and added it to his hand smiling before addressing Erik. It couldn’t have come at a better time. ”No, that’s not right. You can Special Summon as many monsters as you want providing you meet the conditions for all of them.” he said. Katsu’s facedown as a problem. Neb frowned. This could work. He inserted a card into his Spell/Trap slot. One that was all to fimilar. ”I activate Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy your facedown card.” he said. After that was done he inserted another card into that slot. ”Next I’ll use Monster Reincarnation. It allows me to take one card from my hand and put it in my grave to add one monster from my grave to my hand. I’ll take this card here.” he said putting Jenis, Lightsworn Mender in his grave to add Honest to his hand. ”The point of looking at the grave is that just because it’s there doesn’t mean it will stay there or that it can do other stuff.” he said. ”Like now for instance. I have 4 Lightsworns in the grave so I can summon this.” he said playing Judgement Dragon on the field. ”I can special summon this card only when there are 4 or more Lightsworns with different names in my grave. It’s effect? Well I can pay 1000 Life Points to destroy all other cards on the field.” he said as everything would be destroyed in one swift motion. He picked out a second card from his hand. "I Special a Second Judgment Dragon." he said taking one last card from his hand. "And for the last part I'll summon Jain, Lightsworn Paladin." he said placing the last on the field as all three of them stared down Katsu. "Attack him directly!" Neb said for a combined total of 7800. Exactly what Katsuo had left. "Well that was a good duel Katsuo. I have to ask though, what exactly is your deck?" he asked as the holograms faded. "A... another one? Seriously?" Katsuo looked at the second summoned Judgement Dragon, as Neb easily summoned it without batting an eye.
And before he knew it, the duel was over. Judgement Dragon... that card is devastatingly powerful. I hope I don't have to face another one of them anytime soon after this... Katsuo thought, disheartened that he lost, but overall, the duel was at least enjoyable, even if it was only a few turns long.
And, it taught him something else as well: His father's deck is outdated, severely. If it could not keep up with a random passerby's deck, he doubt it would get him very far at all in any sort of league, much less at Duel Academy. He would need a different deck, or at least the one he had currently needed to be improved.
"Good duel!" The young duelist replied happily, before walking over to Neb, whom annihilated him in a mere few turns.
"M-my deck? It's nothing special... It has a bunch of level ones, and it specializes in destroying it's own monsters to special summon Meklord emperors to the field. There's a few other things to it too, like Xyz summoning Baby Tragon to get in a direct attack with said Meklords, which proves extremely deadly if my opponents use synchros. Which, of course, you don't, so..." Katsuo replied, hoping his explanation of his deck wasn't too bad. The last few people he described it to either made fun of the idea, and shortly told him to pick a deck that actually won, or were a tad more kind about it and did the whole "That's great! But there are other cards out there, you know?"
It wasn't his choice to use this deck: It was the only deck available to him. That fact alone made Katsuo feel a bit sad, but he was determined to not let it get to him.
Baby Tragon, the duel spirit, appeared from his extra deck that resided in his duel disk, and circled around the short duelist a few times, giving off happy cries from the fact that Katsuo was happy.
"Good game." Katsuo finally said, holding out his hand as if to shake.

Erik blinked as Neb explained summoning to her. So that was how that was done. she nodded and then watch as her mouth dropped open as Neb without breaking a sweat he summoned two monsters and then reborned another one. She watched as the dual ended with a gapping open mouth, she closed her mouth once Neb asked Kat what in his deck. She guessed then that going to school for this had its perks for them. She had to wonder if she would be as good as Neb one day. She then cocked her head and spoke once Kat spoke to Neb,
That was a awesome game to watch. Maybe one day I’ll do that with the both of you.
She smiled and pulled her paper out and looked at it, it getting close to the time to move to that new home that was set up for her. but she didn’t want to leave the two “friends” she had made. She had to wonder if the smaller of the two was just oblivious to her eyes or if it was the height factor that made him not see her eyes. again it was the same, her eyes, her worry spot that she normally looked after, but not today. She smiled gently and spoke again,
Thank you for showing me how the game is played and teaching me how to do the basics.

Neb blinked. "So it uses Tragon to attack directly with Merklords.” he said considering the concept. ”That’s a pretty neat idea.” he said taking as he shook his hands. ”Shame I didn’t see it in action, but yeah most decks have Syncros now days so it’s not that bad of an idea.” he said before taking note of his duel spiri. He eyed it as the other person seemed completely unaware of it. ”So you have a duel spirit to?” he asked quite quietly in a voice he hoped Erik wouldn’t here. If neither of them could see it he really didn’t want both of them thinking he was crazy. He blinked as Erik approached. He offered her a slight grin. ”Sorry, I probably should’ve tried to extend that you know for educational purposes. A three way duel though.” he said considering the possibility of it. ”That’s really not my thing, but again it was no problem. I think we both had fun here. So Katsuo what exactly are you doing out from school is you don’t mind me asking?” he said turning his attention to Katsu once more. After all there had to be a reason he was out here. "Yeah, it's kinda out there, I know... Just about the only updated card here is Baby Tragon, everything else here is kinda old. Katsuo commented on his own deck, as the Duel Spirit Baby Tragon curiously eyed the Osiris Red and his explanation, as if giving a "Oh ho, is that so?" Sort of look.
But the question about the Duel Spirit caught him off guard. "Duel Spirit? What are you talking about?" Katsuo asked out of curiosity, as Baby Tragon looked at Neb, curious as well.
Perhaps, though, Katsuo felt the miniature Dragon's presence as his curiosity radiated with the other. The two looked like they were fit for one another, perfect. Perhaps Katsuo wasn't aware of the spirit, but there are times where even he cannot deny that there were moments of another being sharing his emotions, cheering in his happiness, sharing the pain of his sadness, calming him when rage overtakes him...
Baby Tragon was more important to Katsuo than he realized. Even Neb had to notice such a bond through the young Dragon's actions.
"A-anyways, I've lived in Satellite all my life, and I wasn't assigned any schoolwork this weekend, and the only other time I've been to Neo Domino City besides going to the Academy was long before I can even remember. I just wanted to spend my free time out here." Katsuo explained, but he left out a vital part. It was the city his mother loved, and he was determined to see it once with his own eyes, and capture it in a memory that he won't forget.
Mother... How are you doing?

Erik frowned slightly at Kat’s question before she shrugged it off, she would ask Neb later, if she saw him again, about Dual Spirits.
Hmm I wonder… Nah…
Erik smiled at neb as he took her words in the wrong way that she spoke of, she shook her head then waited until Kat was done speaking. She looked down, then spoke, looking up at Neb smileing,
Well, I meant having two duals really. But no worries. Its all good.
She smiled and laughed softly as she pulled the address out of her pocket and looked at it smoothing it out with her thumb. She wondered who really lived in the place, but it didn’t matter. She would find her own place soon. Or so she hoped. It then hit her as she looked at both boys and then connected Neb’s earlier words to her about the school he went to. she then asked one more question as the need to move started to creep up on her, as her fingers started to toy with her own nails feeling them.
Hmm, so both of you go to the same school then?

Neb stared at Katsu. He raked his brain trying to think of something to add to it, but it would be hard to do that without looking at his deck. He probably would have to. Or at least asked to. Had it not been for the fact that Erik was here. It would be rude not to include her. Neb’s eyes trailed to the duel spirit before back to Katsuo. Was it his or was he imagining things? ”Forget it.” he said shaking his head. Could he not see them or something? It was odd one would hang around him if that was the case unless someone else asked it to. For now however he set it aside as a matter for another time. Neb looked over to Erik. So Katsu had come he because he wanted to. On the same hand however shouldn’t he at least be trying to get used to the island. ”Oh is that it?” he asked. Apparently he had taken that the wrong way. Neb smiled at Erik. So she made the connection. Had Katsu made it before this? ”Yeah we both go to Duel Acadmey. Hes a Slyfer. Unless you just like the color red.” Neb joked. He wondered if he should tell Katsu his rank. There seemed to be a hate between the two that he never quite got. For now he would hold off on it. "You... you go to Duel Academy as well? No wonder you were so good, you have to be a Ra at the very least..." Katsuo guessed, once more flabbergasted. It seems Neb is going to surprise this Osiris Red a lot, probably more than he intends to.
In fact, the very fact of it more or less made him forget all about the Duel Spirit shenanigans.
"I was the only one that didn't make that connection, wasn't I.." Katsuo also noticed, disliking his own lack of perception of such things.

Erik smiled as she was told she was right about them both going to school for dueling. She then looked down at the paper for the last time. She looked up and spoke,
Well, I only made the connection that you both went a dueling school, I don’t know if there is more than one, but I took a chance and guessed that you both were from the same school. So you didn’t miss much Katsuo.
She paused as she thought about something, did she ever give him her name? She frowned she didn’t think so; she held her hand out to the smaller human to be shaken, she spoke to Kat,
I am Erik by the way.
If her hand was shaken she would take a step back once done and she would stand there calmly.

Neb slowly nodded at Katsu’s question. ”Well actually I’m an Obelisk.” he said slowly. It was a cautious statement. He knew that Obelisk and Slyfier’s usually didn’t get along. Did Katsu already have assumptions about what they were supposed to be. He had hoped however that he didn’t take it too seriously. Neb shook his head. ”It’s okay. We met before. That’s why she knows. At least I’m assuming that’s how she knows.” he said his eyes drifting to gaze over at Erik. ”Well there is one major academy. North Academy.” he said frowning. ”But I doubt they’d be down this far it’s about as far north as you can get.” he watched as she introduced himself noting the piece of paper. ”Looking for somewhere?” he asked. Katsuo looked at Erik for a brief moment as she offered him her name, confused as to what she had just said to him. And then it finally hit him. They hadn't even exchanged names yet, much less introduced themselves! The whole time it was just Katsuo talking about Duel Monsters and how amazing it was, when he never once even gave a thought as to even letting Erik know who the foolish person was that was speaking.
If Katsuo wasn't feeling rather stupid from the embarrassing loss, AND not seeing that Neb was a student, this probably made him feel like the stupidest Osiris Red to ever grace the Earth.
"That's right, we never introduced ourselves... I'm Katsuo. Katsuo Esper. No one important." Katsuo giving out his usual greeting, hoping to god that no one recognized his last name and connected it to his father. After hiding his shame of not even being courteous, he looked to Neb-
But before he did, he noticed something about Erik's eyes. He never really looked at her in the eyes this whole time; he was short, and due to his father's [sarcasm]excellent[/sarcasm] parenting, he never really found himself too fond of giving eye contact. But, it was in this instant where he was introducing himself where he noticed this. Of course Erik was wearing glasses, yet...
He decided to let it go. He was freaking 4'10, and he was 16 for god's sakes! If that wasn't abnormal, he didn't know what was. He knew being different was hard, and he wasn't about to make Erik feel the same. He turned to Neb.
"Obelisk, eh? That would explain everything... You're probably the first Obelisk that's actually bothered to talk to me, in school or out, so I don't think I have much of an opinion of you guys." Katsuo mentioned, his only interaction of people outside his dorm thus far had been Ra Yellow students.

Erik had to smile slightly as she listened to Neb speak and then Kat, she found this amusing somewhat. She then spoke,
I am going to claim a house that was given to me from the place I am from, so in a sense I am looking for a place. But yeah I remember that you said something about a school when we first met Neb.
She had to chuckle, he was babysitting kids then if she remembered right, but then Al had come and messed that day up. She frowned slight before she added,
Katsuo said it was in a that way direction,
She pointed down the street at the direction of the tall buildings on the outskirts of the part if Satellite city before it becomes Neo city.
I think one of them will be it.
She smiled slowly and that place that she had pointed. But thankfully she knew nothing of the ranks of the dueling school, but the north one wouldn’t be the one that would interest her overly much. She reread the address and then spoke,
I should go find this place now. so I guess I’ll be see you guys around again maybe?

Neb nodded. So that was it. He remembered their first meeting too. Rather the end of it. He frowned remembering it. There had been those people. Who were they exactly? He had no idea. It could only be to his favor to find out though. In case they came back again or something, but for now he didn’t think it the best idea to bring it up in front of Katsu. So he let it be. He blinked as his head turned towards the direction she pointed. Yeah she could get there that way, but she would save a few minutes cutting through-Then it hit him. She might get lost again if she tried those streets without knowing her way around first. This caused a chuckle from him. He blinked. He supposed they had to leave eventually. Katsu didn’t seem like the type to hand out much longer then he was needed either. ”I suppose I might see you around. Or we could help you find it?” he offered remembering she really wasn’t from around here. If they let her go alone he turned to Katsu. ”Unless of course you’ve got something better to do.” he quickly added. hr] Tag: Person to post next Song: ”If Today Was Your Last Day” by Nickelback Key: Thoughts; ”Dialouge”Notes:
